Misadventures in Tidying, Music Recording, and Life/Kpop Updates!

I realized I haven’t posted anything in a while so I figured I’d write a little update/ramble-y post about what I’ve been up to lately.

A couple weeks ago a read a post on Korean Vitamin’s blog about the KonMari method of tidying up your home. I was so intrigued by the idea that I went ahead and purchased the book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, right away. I read it slowly and carefully, and reflected on each topic before deciding to give it a try. Since then, I’ve been working through each stage of Marie Kondo’s suggested order of tidying. It’s been a little difficult finding the time to do it, so each of my days off from work have been focused on KonMari-ing my room. I’ve made a lot of progress, but I’m at the tricky 4th stage of sorting through my “komono” (the terrifyingly vague category of “miscellaneous items”) so my room is in a bit of disarray right now. After this, I’ll just have to sort through my sentimental items, and then I can put my room back together again. I’ve already gotten rid of so many clothes, books, and papers, and I feel like I’m getting a fresh start on life! Once I’ve completed all the stages of the book, I’ll probably do a more in depth review with some before and after photos. Look forward to it! 🙂

I haven’t really been doing much language study lately. I’ve mostly just been watching a few short TTMIK videos on youtube, and watching some Korean television shows. To be honest, I don’t think I’ll feel fully comfortable studying in my home until I’m done with the KonMari method. I guess I could always bring my textbooks to a cafe and study there in the meantime?

Besides that, I’ve also been getting really into the idea of using binders and planners to organize my personal life. I’ve created a mini binder to help me keep track of my goals, finances, etc, and I bought a really adorable and useful planner to help me organize my studies. Neither are completely set up yet, but I think once I’m done with KonMari, I’ll be able to really focus on getting a good system going. If anyone’s interested in a binder/planner tour when I’m done, let me know! (TBH I’ll probably do one anyways hahaha)

Today I started a new mini project: recording music! If you’re thinking, “That doesn’t really sound like a mini project,” then you’d be right!!! I’ve recorded simple covers on my laptop (where I just play the guitar and sing along) before, but this time I decided to do it a bit differently, where I record each element separately and then layer them together, and let me tell you it is SO DIFFICULT. It doesn’t sound very high-quality because I don’t own any advanced equipment or recording programs, but I’m making due with what I have. It’s kind of challenging and fun at the same time. Today I recorded keyboard, percussion, and main vocals. Tomorrow, I think I might rerecord the vocals, and then I also have to add backing vocals and some extra sound effects. Hopefully the end result turns out alright!

Other important news: I got a job interview with EPIK! I’m really hoping that everything works out alright this time. The last time I applied to EPIK, I passed the initial screening and the interview, but when it was time to submit my documents, by a fluke of the universe, they got damaged in the mail without enough time before the deadline for me to replace them. My application was ruined, and my spirit got a little crushed. This time I took the precautions of requesting all of my required documents in duplicate and triplicate way ahead of time so I’m super prepared. Fingers crossed for me! The interview will take place this coming Monday night.

And since I’m a KPop junkie, I have to talk about some recent things that have been happening! I finally got my EXO album in the mail today, the Suho/Korean version of Exodus and it’s absolutely amazinggggg. I’m a bit sad to hear the news about Tao possibly resigning, but as long as he’s happy and healthy, whatever decision he makes is alright. Also, today was the 4th anniversary of B1A4’s debut! They are my favorite group so it’s been really fun celebrating with other Banas and watching all the special treats that they and WM Ent. have been posting on social media for us. And on top of that, rookie group Uniq made their comeback today with “EOEO” and holy poo it is so catchy (not to mention super sexy)!!! Finally, WM Ent. new girl group (and B1A4’s little sister group) Oh My Girl made their debut a few days ago. I was really excited for their debut because I love B1A4 and WM Ent. so I knew they would bring us something amazing. At first listen, their debut song “Cupid” didn’t really suit my taste, but the more I listen to it, the more I like it, and the chorus is actually quite fun. I hope that they continue to grow and improve and I’m looking forward to their bright future.

That’s it for me right now; hopefully you didn’t mind reading this highly unorganized post! 😛 Just for fun, here’s Oh My Girl’s debut MV for you guys to enjoy.

  1. Thank you for mentioning my blog. I’ve just got my copy yesterday and your post inspires me to read it thoroughly. Did you know KonMari was chosen as one of TIME’s The Most Influential People in the World in 2014? It seems that you’ve got a lot going on in your life with music making and teaching job in Korea (that what EPIK is, right?). Sounds exciting. I wish you all the best.

    • I just found that out today! I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading it. I find myself picking it up almost daily to reread little sections of it. Yes, EPIK is the English Program In Korea that hires English teachers for Korean schools. I actually have my interview tonight, so wish me luck! 😀
