How I Learned Hangeul | Tips and Resources for Beginners

Hangeul, or the Korean alphabet, is one of the simplest parts of learning Korean, but it is the necessary foundation upon which all other skills are built. I started learning Korean nearly 6 years ago, and I decided it is high time that I talk about this incredibly important topic! In today’s post, I will be sharing my favorite resources and tips for learning and becoming proficient in reading and writing hangeul.

A Day in Daebudo

Late last winter (2019), my boyfriend and I took a fun day trip to a little island called Daebudo. On the way we stopped at a cafe, a look out point, and after going on a hike, we stopped at a delicious kalguksu restaurant before heading home. I figure we all need a little break from COVID-19 news, so today let’s take a little mental escape! Read on to see some photos from this leisurely, beautiful day!

My New and Improved Goals for 2020

I had originally planned on sharing a blog post at the start of the year detailing all of my goals for 2020 and my perfect plan to execute them throughout the year. I had gone through a really intensive process to outline each goal and the steps needed to complete them during December of last year in preparation for January 1st. My goals were lofty, my timeline was strict, and I thought I was ready to tackle anything. But if you read my previous blog post, you know that things haven’t been working out according to plan. If the corona virus has taught me anything, it’s that life is truly unpredictable. So I have taken some time to reevaluate my goals and decide on what is really important to me. I have chosen to remove most of my deadlines, lighten up on some of the more difficult tasks, and I feel a lot better about my goals in general. Read on if you are interested in finding out what my goals for the rest of year are!

Every Book I Read in 2019

In 2019, I made a goal for myself to read 12 books over the course of the year. For some, this may seem like a rather low bar, just one book a month. But it’s been so long since I’ve read consistently, so I wanted to start off slow. I was worried I wouldn’t make it, but in the fall I signed up for a library card at my local library and my motivation to read was reignited. I found new ways to incorporate reading into my daily life and I was able to meet my goal, right at the end of December with just a few days left to spare. Read on to find out what I read in 2019!

Reflecting on My 2019 Goals

So we’re a good chunk of the way through January already, but I thought it would be a good idea to look back over my 2019 goals and see how far I got before moving on to my new goals for the new year.

Last year, I made two separate lists: one list of “intentions,” or goals that I felt couldn’t quite be quantified or measured, and one list of “goals,” which turned out to be a lot more like a bucket list. Since then I’ve learned a lot about how to properly design and plan goals, so while I wasn’t able to accomplish much last year, I am hoping for a lot more success in 2020.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the two lists and see how I did!

Welcoming 2020

Happy New Year! We have officially entered into a new decade! Some people don’t find this to be a particularly important fact, but to me it seems rather momentous. It strikes me that 80 years from now, a new generation will look back at what we wore and what we listened to as a moment in history, the same way we look back at the flappers of the 1920s. So I guess we better make this decade something to remember!
